Album review.

Artist : Michael Roberts.
Title : There Is No Blue.
Label : Digitalis Records (2018)

Two years on from his last release, Michael Roberts returns with a spectacular collection of new and original songs called ‘There Is No Blue’.
The frontman for, Swansea band, The Somethings has wasted no time in getting straight back into the studio with all the usual suspects to keep him company – you’ll find Andy Collins, Steve Balsamo, Donna Howell, Alan Thomas, Nathan Corbett and Tim Hamill on this little beauty, as well as a few more !
There’s a fantastic retro feel to this album. It’s like a ‘proper’ record with real songs and melodies and instruments. Think back to years gone by when you eagerly awaited the latest release from your favourite band and when it finally came out you just savoured every bit of it – we’ll that’s what this is like ! Shots of the band on the sleeve, a great cover and with just a touch of mystery about it !
Comparisons to The Beatles will always be made and Mike has used some of the Fab Four’s production tricks here and there but that’s no bad thing with songs as strong as these – it’s like a friendly nod of the head to some old mates.
For the ‘difficult’ second album this is a triumph – especially as it follows such a strong debut, it just oozes pure class and that’s evident with the people playing on it.
If you’re going to treat yourself to just one album this Summer make it this one. Perfect listening for the discerning music fan !
