EP review.
Artist : Camille Barr.
Title : Living in a world of silence
Poet Camille Barr is The Last Folksinger. Camille is an Australian of French and Welsh origin. “The family story,” she tells me, “is I have a relation from the 1830s who was transported from Wales to New South Wales for sheep stealing!”
Camille’s grandfather moved from France to Australia in the 1950s. So from two countries of song, Wales and France, and Camille was born with the genes of music.
Her music is angelic Celtic folk, alternative chamber music, and indie pop with strong hints of medieval hues of a folk-soundscape. At other junctures, haunting pianos and fierce vocals carry 'Living In A World Of Silence' into dark, foreboding territory that is strangely alluring. Camille’s performance is poetry, beyond the craft of usual song writing. She deserves a wide audience.
